REHABILITATION OF KOUMOUNDOUROU, DILAVERI COAST AND ZAHARIOU FONDATION, PIRAEUS GREECE

The architectural competition concerns the redevelopment of Akti Dilaveri-Akti Koumoundourou-Delfinari Area, in the Municipality of Piraeus. The study area is characterized by a disorganized arrangement of arbitrary facilities, which have emerged without overall planning, encapsulating an altered coastline, a tourist attraction and an incomplete brutalist shell.
The present proposal, therefore, has to manage a series of heterogeneous conditions, proposing urban interventions in relation to the planning, functional and aesthetic physiognomy of the area. An imaginary grid of dimensions 1x1m, extends throughout the whole space of the intervention, adopting at each point a different use, a different materialization. A palette of disparate objects, manifested differently each time in relation to the floors and urban furniture elements. Thus, sometimes one finds variations of hard and soft grounds, sometimes elements of lighting and appropriately shaped plantings. Through this framework and through mild interventions, an attempt is made to give a unifying character to the whole area, with the aim of promoting the connection of the sea with the urban fabric and the upgrading of the urban cityscape.
