KAL-EC

KAL-EC is situated in the wider area of eastern Kalamata, a city with particular natural advantages, attempting to transform it from a place of transition to a place of destination. The intervention area is defined by a mild natural terrain and is mainly characterised by an undeveloped urban environment, anarchic building, the absence of urban infrastructure and organised urban transport network. Without a center of gravity, points of attraction and adequate access, it does not meet the needs of the adjacent areas or the general needs of the city. It is therefore proposed to redevelop the Eastern City Center (former Camp), its interconnection with the historic center and the coastal zone and the upgrading of the urban fabric of the area through integrated interventions and infrastructure. Thus, the main objectives of the redevelopment, focus on the creation of a clear centrality – a pole of attraction and the corresponding distinct entrances that will mark it, the functional enrichment with new uses and open spaces, which will further organize the central urban public space.
