Our proposal attempts to redefine the concepts of the private and the public. The new created milieu is at the same time unique and multiple, enclosed and transparent, but it is certainly not a building in the common sense of the term. A network of indoor and outdoor spaces is implemented, forming a coherent, interconnected whole. The past and present of Thessaloniki as a junction of cultures, ethnic groups, urban functions, leads us to a composition that utilizes the richness of the synergies between the various social groups that use the new place.
The aim of the design team is to create a space capable of combining the scale of a building of public interest with the scale of the residential area to which it refers. At the same time, the creation of open outdoor public spaces is proposed as being able to enhance socialisation, recreation and neighbourhood-level interaction.
