SCHWERIN

Schwerin is a historical city in northern Germany. The city’s historicity expresses itself into its public spaces and architectural monuments, with many of those being listed as UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Our project imagines the New Schwerin History Museum as a node of active remembrance that interweaves the city’s historical spaces. On its own, the new building is a series of exploratory paths that connect the city’s urbanities on the ground floor, to Schwerin’s monument-disrupted horizon on its rooftop terrace, a series of movement threads that traverse and section the existing building’s archeological strata. Exhibition spaces and archeological stratum become one active entity that remembers all levels of the city’s past pushing into a continuously reinvented future.
