The area of Kordia is located on the western sea front of the city of Kalamata. Its central location at the city boundary and its proximity to the sea is ideal for the creation of a supraregional recreational pole, with the potential for interconnection with wider spatial planning projects at the Municipality level, such as the city’s network of cycle paths and its historic routes.
The existing state of the man-made area is characterised by an abundance of enclosed sports activities that create hard boundaries, with tall fencing elements, while lacking connections between them. As a result, citizens are unable to directly access the seafront, which is gradually deteriorating and becoming an uninhabitable area for citizens.
With the aim of gradually reversing the existing situation and ensuring the best final result, it is proposed to implement the upgrading, rehabilitation and regeneration proposal gradually, in three sub-areas, with the main design element being the implementation of a Coastal Recreation Platform in the zone defined by the Aegean and Beach lines.
